About Fudai Village
Fudai Village in Shimohei District faces the Pacific Ocean and is a thriving fishing village. Salmon caught off the coast of Fudai are shipped nationwide as aramaki salmon. Kelp and matsumo seaweed are also caught here, and Iso ramen is a specialty of Fudai Village. The Fudai Marugoto Seafood Festival is held in October, and various events are held, including Fudai Araiso Taiko performances, a fishing net tour boat, and a fish catching contest. Surrounded by mountains, the village is also known as a producer of matsutake mushrooms. Shiitake mushroom cultivation is also thriving, and dried shiitake mushrooms from Fudai are sold as a luxury item. The Sanriku Railway, which connects the Sanriku Coast from north to south, also operates a retro train, offering beautiful views of the sea and mountains.
