Oshu City is located in the southern part of the Kitakami Basin, sandwiched between the Ou Mountains to the west and the Kitakami Mountains to the east. The Yakeishi Mountain Range, with Mount Yakeishi, the highest peak in Oshu City, is home to many virgin beech forests. The entire region, including the Taneyama Plateau and the Awarayama Plateau, is rich in greenery and nature. Agriculture is the city's primary industry, making it one of the prefecture's leading agricultural regions. Nationally renowned agricultural products include Maezawa Beef, Iwate Oshu Beef, Esashi Kinsuda Rice, Esashi Apples, and Isawa Bell Peppers. Leveraging its convenient transportation, the city has recently seen a concentration of businesses, with an industrial park established and a well-balanced agricultural, industrial, and commercial sector. Major tourist attractions include the Ihatov Scenic Area, a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty.
