About Kuji City
Kuji City is located in northeastern Iwate Prefecture, facing the Pacific Ocean with the Kitakami Mountains at its back. The city center is located at the innermost part of Kuji Bay. It is also known as the northernmost town of female divers and as one of the world's leading amber mining areas. Its main industries are agriculture and fishing, with spinach, salmon, trout, and sea urchins harvested. Amber mining is also active. Major tourist attractions include Funado Beach, Kosode Coast, Kuji Gorge, and the ruins of Kuji Castle. The city also hosts festivals such as the Amber Festival and the Hiraniwa Bullfighting Tournament Shirakabababa, attracting many visitors. Kuji City has also been used as a filming location for many TV dramas and movies.
