Otsuchi Town in Kamihei District faces the Pacific Ocean, making it a thriving fishing area. A variety of seafood, including saury, mackerel, wakame seaweed, and squid, is harvested here. It's also known as the birthplace of aramaki salmon, and autumn salmon fishing has been a thriving industry here since ancient times. You can see salmon spawning naturally in the Otsuchi River. Surrounded by mountains like Kujirayama and Shiramiyama, the town is blessed with abundant nature. Otsuchi Bay is home to Horaijima, a small, gourd-shaped island with a circumference of 200 meters, known as the setting for a television puppet show. Every May, a sports event called Challenge Day is held, with people enjoying a variety of sports, including tug-of-war, table tennis, and long-distance skipping.
