About Wajima City
Located northwest of the Noto Peninsula, Wajima City in Ishikawa Prefecture is a naturally rich town surrounded by beautiful greenery and vast ocean. The town has long prospered thanks to the Kitamaebune shipping routes, and even today, many fishing boats are anchored here, unloading fresh seafood throughout the seasons. The Wajima Morning Market, which brings together fresh seafood and produce from surrounding farms, is held every day except for the first three days of the New Year and the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Mornings in this town begin with the energetic call of "Kaitekudaaa (please buy)!" Local specialties include cod roe and winter yellowtail with daikon radish, all made with fresh seafood. Wajima somen noodles are also famous, dating back to the Muromachi period and considered the roots of the somen and udon noodles in the surrounding area.
