About Komatsu City
Located in the center of the fertile Kaga Plain in Ishikawa Prefecture's southwestern region, Komatsu City is a thriving industrial city and the core of Southern Kaga. Komatsu Castle was built in 1576 by Wakabayashi Nagato, a leader of the Ikko Ikki rebellion. In 1639, Maeda Toshitsune, the third lord of the Kaga domain, retired to Komatsu, and in 1640, Komatsu Castle was built. Since then, the city has rapidly developed as a castle town. The traditional performing art of Hikiyama Children's Kabuki was born and continues to this day. Local specialties include agricultural products such as rice and Kagamaru potatoes, as well as the traditional local dish, persimmon leaf sushi. Recently, Komatsu has also been focusing on B-grade gourmet foods such as salt-fried noodles and tomato curry, attracting tourists from all over the country to sample these delicacies.
