Hakusan City borders cities and towns in Ishikawa Prefecture, including Kanazawa City and Komatsu City, as well as cities in Fukui Prefecture, cities and villages in Gifu Prefecture, and cities in Toyama Prefecture. Hakusan City is known as the largest municipality in Ishikawa Prefecture in terms of area, and is currently the second most populous after Kanazawa City. Because it borders Kanazawa City, it has strong ties with the city and serves as a commuter town for the city. While rice, vegetable, and fruit cultivation are thriving in the city, there are also many factories within the city. Tourist attractions in the city include Hakusan National Park and Ubagataki Falls. City events include the Shishiku Highland Sky Festival and the Snowman Festival.
