Takahagi City borders Kitaibaraki City, Hitachi City, Hitachiota City, and Hanawa Town in Fukushima Prefecture. During the Meiji period, the city thrived on the coal mining industry, but today the wood processing industry is thriving. The city is also blessed with abundant water resources, with the Okita River, Hananuki River, and Sekine River flowing through it, and agriculture is thriving, with rice, dairy farming, and vegetable cultivation. Local specialties include Takahagi strawberries, Takato miso, and woodwork made from Jiji cedar. There are also many famous spots where you can enjoy the rich natural scenery, such as Hananuki Sakura Park and campgrounds, the Green Museum, the Hometown Nature Park Center, and Hananuki Dam. The Hananuki Valley hosts a fall foliage festival starting in November, and you can view a stunning tunnel of autumn leaves from the Shiomi Suspension Bridge.
