Omitama City was formed in 2006 after the merger of the various municipalities. Located in the center of Ibaraki Prefecture, Omitama City is flat and has a strong agricultural base, thriving with the cultivation of chives and strawberries. In addition to agricultural products, other local specialties include nira senbei (sweet rice crackers) and omitama pudding, which are made from local specialties. This region has a deep connection with natto, and is home to the Takano Foods Natto Museum and the Takano Foods Mito Factory, where you can learn about the history of natto. The city is also home to Ibaraki Airport. With only an hour and a half to reach the city center, the area is extremely well-connected.
