Kitaibaraki City, located in the northernmost part of Ibaraki Prefecture, borders four other municipalities within the prefecture and Iwaki City in Fukushima Prefecture. Eighty percent of the city is covered by forests, and agriculture and fishing are thriving industries. Additionally, the Hiragata, Otsu, and Isohara areas are lined with numerous hot spring facilities, attracting many tourists. Local specialties include fish cakes (satsumaage), a seafood product made with seafood caught at the Otsu and Hiragata fishing ports, as well as wild yam and doburoku sake. The city is also famous for its monkfish, known as "ki-anko" (monkfish caught off the coast of Tokiwa, Kitaibaraki). The city also boasts numerous natural attractions, including Hanadani Valley, a renowned spot for its autumn foliage. Other popular tourist destinations include the Seven Waterfalls, Kameyachi Marsh, Futatsujima Island, and Goura Beach.
