About Toyooka City
Toyooka City is located in northern Hyogo Prefecture and serves as the center of the Tajima region. Formed by the Toyooka Basin, the largest in Tajima, the city is approximately 80% forested. The Sea of Japan lies to the north, Kyoto Prefecture to the east, and the Maruyama River runs through the center. The current town was formed in 2005 through the merger of Toyooka City and five other towns. Known as the last wild habitat for the Oriental White Stork, a nationally designated natural monument, Toyooka City actively works to protect, breed, and coexist with the bird. In 2005, storks were released into the wild, and efforts to reintroduce them into human settlements have begun, earning the city worldwide recognition. The city's main industries are agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, and tourism. The tourism sector is particularly popular thanks to the nationally renowned Kinosaki Onsen.
