Takasago City is recognized as an industrial city, but fishing and quarrying also play important roles in the city's industries. There are several reasons why it developed as an industrial city, one of which is its abundant water supply for factories. Takasago City also has popular local delicacies, such as grilled conger eel and katsumeshi (pork cutlet rice). Katsumeshi was created with the idea of Western food that can be easily eaten with chopsticks. There are also many shrines in the city, including Arai Shrine, which has a pine tree called Musubi no Matsu (Musubi no Matsu). The city also hosts events such as the Takasago Manto Festival and the Kaneka Summer Festival.
