Taka Town, Taka District, is located in the center of Hyogo Prefecture, bordering Tamba City to the north, Nishiwaki City to the south, and Kamikawa Town to the west. Surrounded by the mountains of the Chugoku Mountains and with the Sugihara River flowing through the center of town, the town is blessed with abundant nature. The climate is relatively warm, similar to the Seto Inland Sea climate. The town is relatively new, formed in 2005 by the merger of three towns. The town boasts many rural landscapes, including one of Japan's few remaining terraced rice fields with stone walls. It is also the birthplace of Yamada Nishiki, Japan's best rice variety for sake brewing, and many farmers are engaged in its production. Sugiharashi, a handmade Japanese paper, has been produced here since ancient times and remains a traditional industry to this day.
