Tarumi Ward, Kobe City, is one of the city's nine wards and borders two other wards and two other cities. The ward is home to many residential areas, a growing population, and a thriving cultural and economic hub. Local specialties include seaweed and simmered sand lance. Traditional performing arts such as the Tarumi Ondo and Shioya Lion Dance have been passed down since ancient times, and these spectacular dances can be seen at the Tarumi Bon Odori Festival. The ward is also home to numerous tourist attractions, including historical sites such as Sekisui-dera Temple, the Manyo Poetry Monument, Umijinja Shrine, the Goshikizuka Tomb, and the Ishitani Grottoes; leisure facilities such as Hiraiso Sea Fishing Park and the Sports Garden; and parks with seasonal flowers, such as Sunflower Street, Hydrangea Street, and Lavender Street.
