About Himeji City
Himeji City is located in the southwestern part of Hyogo Prefecture and is designated as a core city. It is the central city of the Harima region, with the Ichikawa River flowing through the central-eastern part of the city, the Senba River and Noda River flowing through the central part, and the Yumesaki River and Otsumo River flowing through the central-western part. The city enjoys a Seto Inland Sea-style climate, with many sunny days and comfortable weather. It also boasts the second largest commercial and industrial base in the prefecture, and boasts the country-famous Himeji Castle (a national treasure and World Heritage site), Shoshazan Engyo-ji Temple, and Banshu autumn festivals such as the Nada Kenka Festival. This has led to a thriving tourism industry, attracting visitors from overseas. The city once flourished as a castle town for the Himeji Domain, and the current layout of the city remains. Another major feature of the city is its many historical sites and cultural assets.
