Aioi City is located in the southwestern part of Hyogo Prefecture and serves as the center of the Nishi-Harima region. The city is surrounded by small mountains, including Mount Mino to the north, Mount Tenkadai to the east, and Mount Miyayama to the west. The city has long flourished as an industrial city centered on shipbuilding, and even today, the town's main industry is centered around the industrial parks along the bay. Other local industries include oyster farming and sand lance and dried baby sardine fishing off the coast of Iwashihama in the southern part of the city. The town boasts historical heritage sites such as the Tsubone Kofun Group and the Kanjoyama Castle Ruins, as well as numerous national historic sites and prefectural cultural assets. The town is also home to natural monuments such as the Zelkova and Koyasunoki trees.
