The southern area of Abira Town in Yufutsu District has an oceanic climate influenced by the Pacific Ocean. This results in a warm climate throughout the year. The northern area has an inland climate, and although the climate varies from area to area within the town, neither area experiences much snowfall. Agriculture plays an important role in the town's industry. Melons are a local specialty, and the Asa Melon brand variety is produced extensively. Tourist attractions include Abira Town Deer Park and Tsuru-no-Yu Hot Springs. Many golf courses have also been built within the town, which also attracts visitors. The town is also the hometown of the racehorse Deep Impact.
