About Uryu Town
Uryu Town, Uryu District, is located in the northern part of the Sorachi General Subprefectural Bureau of Hokkaido, at the northern end of the Ishikari Plain, in the northern part of the Uryu Plain. The town is located on the right bank of the Uryu River, and is surrounded by beautiful rice paddy scenery. The Ishikari River and the Uryu River flow through the town. Uryu Town is famous for the Uryu Marsh, located on the east side of Mount Shokanbetsu. It is a designated Ramsar wetland and a major scenic spot in Shokanbetsu-Teuri-Yagishiri Quasi-National Park. Agriculture is the main industry, with rice production being the main focus. The town's specialties include Shokan Jingisukan (Japanese mutton barbecue) and Shokan melons. Major tourist attractions include Shokanbetsu-Teuri-Yagishiri Quasi-National Park, Uryu Marsh, and Hakuryu Falls.
