About Numata Town
Numata Town, Uryu District, is located in the northern part of the Sorachi General Subprefectural Bureau of Hokkaido, on the north bank of the Uryu River. The town is surrounded by plains to the south and mountains on the other three sides. The town is home to the Uryu River and the Horoshin-Tachibetsu River, and Lake Poropiri. The town's name comes from the surname of Kisaburo Numata, a pioneering pioneer. The town's primary industry is rice farming. In the past, the town produced coal from the Asano Coal Mine, and mining was also thriving.
