About Hokuryu Town
Hokuryu Town, Uryu District, is located in the northern part of the Sorachi General Subprefectural Bureau of Hokkaido, on the west bank of the Uryu River. The town is flat to the east, while the west is mountainous. The Shokanbetsu Mountains are the most prominent, while the Uryu River and Mibaushi River are the most prominent rivers, and the Edaibetsu Lake is the most prominent. Hokuryu Town boasts the largest sunflower cultivation area in Japan, and the town is developing around sunflowers. Its main industry is agriculture, and in addition to sunflowers, its melons are known as some of the sweetest in Hokkaido. The Shinryu Lion Dance is a designated cultural asset of the town. Major tourist attractions include the Shokanbetsu-Teuri-Yagiri Quasi-National Park, Hokuryu Onsen, and Sunflower Village, attracting many tourists.
