About Hokuryu Town
Hokuryu Town, Uryu District, is located in the northern part of the Sorachi General Subprefectural Bureau of Hokkaido, on the west bank of the Uryu River. The town is flat to the east, while the west is mountainous. The mountains include Mt. Shokanbetsu, the Uryu River and the Mibaushi River, and the Edaibetsu Lake. Hokuryu Town boasts the largest sunflower cultivation area in Japan, and the town is developing around sunflowers. Its main industry is agriculture, and in addition to sunflowers, its melons are known as some of the sweetest in Hokkaido. The town's designated cultural asset is the Shinryu Lion Dance. Major tourist attractions include Shokanbetsu-Teuri-Yagishiri Quasi-National Park, Hokuryu Onsen, and Sunflower Village, attracting many tourists.
