Haboro Town in Tomamae County, once one of Hokkaido's leading coal mining areas, now thrives as a transportation hub for the prefecture. Its main industries are fishing and agriculture, with shrimp, green asparagus, and Haboro melons being some of its specialties. Shrimp, in particular, boasts the highest shrimp catch in Japan and is famous nationwide. The town also holds the Sweet Shrimp Festival in June. The famous tourist destination, the Teuri and Yagishiri Islands in Shokanbetsu-Teuri-Yagishiri Quasi-National Park, is a popular destination, attracting many visitors. Haboro Rose Garden, where colorful roses bloom, is also famous. Haboro Sunset Beach is also famous, and during the swimming season, people from all over the country gather to enjoy swimming and fireworks displays.
