Kunneppu Town in Tokoro District is close to Kitami City, and has strong ties to the city. The town's main industries are field crops and dairy farming. Melons are a speciality, and are sold under the brand name Kunneppu Melon. The streetlights on the town's main street are also designed with a melon motif. One of the town's specialties is Kunneppu Katsudon, which is unique in that it is not topped with egg. Leisure and tourist facilities within the town include a recreation park and the Kunneppu Hot Spring Recreation Center. The town also hosts the Samusamu Festival and Shiba Sakura Festival, which attract many visitors.
