Sarufutsu Village, Soya District, is known as the northernmost village in Japan. Facing the Sea of Okhotsk, 80% of the village is covered in forest. Scallops are a specialty of Sarufutsu Village, Soya District, and the village boasts the largest catch in Japan. Dairy farming is also thriving.
