Nakafurano Town in Sorachi County is located in the southern part of the Kamikawa region, in the center of the Furano district. Most of the town is in the hilly area of the Furano Basin. Rivers that flow through the town include part of the Sorachi River and the Furano River. The town's main industry is agriculture, with rice as the main crop, but the town also takes advantage of the fertile soil to produce melons, carrots, onions, potatoes, and other crops. The town also places a great deal of emphasis on tourism, with popular lavender farms such as Farm Tomita and Saika no Sato, which are representative of the Furano area, having been selected as one of the 100 most fragrant landscapes in Japan. Cultural assets include gagaku music and Tsugaru lion dance.
