About Shiranuka Town
Shiranuka Town, Shiranuka District, borders Kushiro City and Ashoro Town. The Nemuro Main Line runs along the coast of the southern part of Shiranuka Town, Shiranuka District, and the population is concentrated around this area. Since its incorporation as a town in 1950, the town has developed with a rich history, including the completion of Humming Road, which was the first district in Japan to be selected as an area with outstanding advertising landscape, and the completion of Shoji Dam. Forestry, fishing, and dairy farming are thriving in the town, and the Shiranuka Industrial Park, Shiranuka District, has been developed on the east side of the town, making it the Kushiro-Shiranuka Next-Generation Energy Special Zone. The Kantaka area is famous for its shiso production, which is also the name of the shiso shochu. Local specialties include the famous Komaodori Monaka confectionery and the shiso shochu "Kantakatan."
