About Shakotan Town
Shakotan Town, Shakotan District, is located at the tip of the Shakotan Peninsula, adjacent to Furubira Town and Kamieuchi Village. It has several fishing ports, and many people work in fishing and dairy farming, often farming on the side. Until the Taisho era, the town prospered from herring, with a large herring catch. It is also famous as the birthplace of the folk song "Soran Bushi," and Cape Kamui is Hokkaido's only underwater park. Shakotan Town, Shakotan District, is also home to scenic spots such as Cape Kamui and Cape Shakotan, and Cape Shakotan is a town-run hot spring beloved by locals.
