About Mikasa City
Mikasa City is located within 30 minutes of Sapporo, Hokkaido's capital city. While it has long prospered thanks to its railroads and coal mines, its current industry is primarily agricultural. Its specialty products include melons, watermelons, and wine. Famous for its Yunomoto Hot Springs, this lodging town stands alone in the mountains. Mikasa Roadside Station is Hokkaido's first roadside station, selling locally grown produce. If you're driving to Mikasa Roadside Station, look for the large waterwheel. The city also hosts the Mikasa Katsurazawa Autumn Leaves Festival (held in mid-October on the shores of Lake Katsurazawa), one of Mikasa's three major festivals. A popular tourist attraction is the Mikasa City Museum, where ammonite fossils are on display.
