Lake Shikaribetsu in Shikaoi Town, Kato District, is home to a freshwater fish called the Miyabei char. This is such a rare creature that it has been designated a natural monument in Hokkaido. The town also has mountainous areas, allowing you to enjoy the magnificent nature that is so characteristic of Hokkaido. Major leisure facilities include Shikaoi Nature Land and Lake Shikaribetsu Nature Center. Other sightseeing spots include Lake Shikaribetsu Hot Springs, Ogigahara Observatory, and Kanda Nissho Memorial Museum. Shikaoi Town, Kato District, has agriculture and dairy farming as its main industries, and is also famous for producing potatoes and other crops.
