About Takasu Town
Takasu Town, Kamikawa District, is located in the center of Hokkaido, in the Kamikawa Basin. The town is surrounded by hills, forming a small basin. The town is characterized by a grid-like layout of roads. The Osarappe River flows from north to south. The name Takasu Town comes from the Ainu word "Chikapuni," meaning "where the big bird lives," due to the long-standing population of black kites and hawks. The name "Takasu" is a free translation of this word. The town's main industry, once rice paddy monoculture, has shifted to field farming, and vegetable production has increased from rice. Tomato juice is famous nationwide. Cultural assets include the Kitano Shrine lion dance and a flood control monument.
