About Pippu Town
Pippu Town, Kamikawa District, is located in the northwestern part of the Kamikawa Basin. The Ishikari River, which flows through the town, forms the town's southern border, while Shiokari Pass to the north forms the town's border with Wassamu Town. The town's name comes from the Ainu word "pipi" or "pipu," meaning "a place with many stones," as the area was originally home to many wetlands and the riverbed of the Ishikari River was often filled with stones. The town's main industry is rice farming, but in recent years, vegetable and fruit cultivation has also expanded, with strawberries being a local specialty. Cultural assets include the town-designated Suzuki Residence, and tourist attractions include Pippu Ski Resort, Yuyu Pippu, and Mount Totsuso. The town's designated tree is the rowan, and its designated flower is the daffodil.
