About Kenbuchi Town
Kenbuchi Town, Kamikawa District, is located in the northern part of Hokkaido's Kamikawa region, along the Kenbuchi River, a tributary of the Teshio River. The town's name is said to come from the Ainu word "Kenebetsu," which means "river with many alder trees." The summer climate is hot and sunny with little rain, making it a comfortable place to live. Agriculture is the main industry, with field crops, vegetables, dairy farming, and livestock farming also being carried out. Kenbuchi Town operates as a picture book village, and its unique initiative of lending picture books from around the world to the entire country has helped spread the name "Kenbuchi Picture Book Village" nationwide. The Picture Book Museum is a popular tourist spot, and other attractions include the Kenbuchi Alpaca Farm.
