About Aibetsu Town
Aibetsu Town, Kamikawa District, is located at the northeastern edge of the Kamikawa Basin, at the confluence of the Ishikari River and the Aibetsu River. The town's name is said to have been derived from "aibe," meaning "arrow" in the Ainu language, referring to the steeply sloping land and the Aibetsu River, which flows as fast as an arrow. The town's main industry is rice farming, but mushroom cultivation, which began in recent years, has also become popular, earning it the nickname "Mushroom Village" in Japan and a major mushroom-producing area. The town also hosts the "Mushroom Village Festival," which highlights mushrooms and helps revitalize the town. The Aibetsu Gifu Lion Kagura dance is a designated cultural asset of the town. Tourist attractions include Kyowa Onsen and Asahikawa International Country Club.
