Hokuto City, located in Hokkaido, was formed in 2006 by the merger of Kamiiso Town, Kamiiso District, and Ono Town, Kameda District. Hokuto City has been developing as a commuter town for the Hakodate metropolitan area, and its population has been increasing year by year, making it the second most populous city after Hakodate City. The city's economy has primarily relied on agriculture and fishing, but in recent years, an industrial park has been built in the eastern region, bringing with it the presence of many factories. Shopping is also easily accessible, as commercial facilities are springing up one after another. Hokuto City is famous for its seafood, including surf clams and scallops, as well as Trappist butter and cookies, which use dairy products. In spring, the Hokuto Jinya Sakura Festival is held, allowing visitors to view the beautiful cherry blossoms.
