Hamatonbetsu Town in Esashi County faces the Sea of Okhotsk and is surrounded by abundant nature, including Mount Jumon and Lake Kutcharo. Swans fly to Lake Kutcharo from winter to spring, with numbers reaching over 2,000 at peak times. The area is well-suited for bird watching, attracting many birdwatchers. Other tourist attractions include Usotannai Gold Mining Park and Clover Hill. The Lake Kutcharo Water Festival is held every July, featuring events such as a fireworks display and a log-crossing race. In October, Hamatonbetsu Port hosts a sale of fresh seafood, including scallops caught in the Sea of Okhotsk, a salmon catching event, and an exhibition and sale of forestry products.
