Esashi Town in Esashi District is surrounded by mountains and the sea. It is also famous for being the town with the highest horsehair crab catch in Japan. In addition to horsehair crab, scallops, flatfish, and sea urchins are also caught here. Dairy farming is thriving in the inland areas. From the summit of Mt. Mikasa, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the vast Sea of Okhotsk and the town. There are also many spots where you can enjoy Hokkaido's abundant nature, such as Hamanasu Beach and Usutaibe Senjoiwa Campground. Every July, the Esashi Crab Festival is held at Usutaibe Senjoiwa, featuring events such as a horsehair crab eating contest and a special horsehair crab sale. In October, many participants gather to enjoy events such as a seafood hotpot using the local specialty, Japanese sardine, salmon catching, and a sale.
