Eniwa City is located between Sapporo and Chitose Airport, and with excellent transportation access, it serves as a commuter town for people working in Sapporo. It is also known for having a Self-Defense Force training ground, and many SDF personnel can be seen here. The city has been working on sewerage and educational infrastructure since early on, and its population is on the rise. Specialties of the city include Elsie melons and Ebisu pumpkins, and the popular unpasteurized sake "Eniwadake." Rice cultivation has a long history, but there is currently a shift to suburban agriculture. Industry and manufacturing are also thriving, with many factories.
