About Kutchan Town
Kutchan Town in Abuta County, located at the foot of Mt. Yotei, is one of the areas in Hokkaido that receives the most snowfall. Agriculture is thriving here, and Gosetsu Udon, made from potato starch, is a local home-cooked dish. Gosetsu Udon was created not only in this heavy snow region, but also because the noodles are so transparent they resemble snow, hence the name. This area is home to many tourist attractions, including Mt. Yotei and Kutchan Onsen. Kutchan Onsen offers a spectacular view of Mt. Yotei. Kagami-numa (Kagami Pond) is also a great place to see the changing colors of the landscape in summer and autumn. It is also used as a walking path, where you can discover a variety of plants.
