Tsubetsu Town in Abashiri County is mostly covered by forests, and forestry is a thriving industry. It's known as the "Town of Lovely Forests." The Wood Craft Museum is its symbolic facility, exhibiting and selling a variety of woodworking and craft products. Many of the town's specialty products are wooden accessories and ornaments, which many people purchase as souvenirs. Lake Chimikeppu has a campsite and walking trails, and is home to primeval forests such as Ezo pine, as well as numerous wild birds and other wildlife. In June, the Nonno Forest hosts the Primrose Festival, where visitors can observe beautiful colonies of Primrose. In summer, the town hosts the Bon Odori Festival and the Tsubetsu Summer Festival, attracting many tourists. Agriculture is also thriving, with pumpkins, onions, and potatoes available for harvest.
