Kitahiroshima Town in Yamagata County, located on the border with Shimane Prefecture, is surrounded by a series of mountain ranges of various sizes, with the rest of the area made up of hills, basins, and mountains. This diverse topography is a defining feature of the region. The town is relatively new, formed in 2005 by the merger of four towns. Its two main water sources are the Ota River and the Eno River. While the climate is generally characteristic of the Seto Inland Sea coast, the area surrounding the Chugoku Mountains receives significant winter snowfall. Its main industries are agriculture, forestry, and tourism, and it thrives as a post town, centered around Geihoku Onsen and Tahara Onsen. The town is also dotted with stunning views of the Yawata Wetlands and Mount Garyu.
