Aki Ward, Hiroshima City, is the least populated of the city's eight wards. Neighboring municipalities include Asakita Ward, Higashi Ward, and Minami Ward, as well as Higashihiroshima City and Kure City. The ward is home to the Yano River and Seno River, two second-class rivers, and many other rivers. Aki Ward is also home to numerous new towns and housing complexes, including Skyrail Town Midorizaka and Mitsugidai Danchi, creating a sprawling residential area. The "skyrail" in Skyrail Town Midorizaka refers to the monorail, which is used as a form of transportation. The monorail running along the line is a distinctive sight in the area. Historic sites within the ward include the remains of Yano Castle and the former site of the government-run cotton spinning factory.
