Kumano Town, Aki District, is located in the western part of Hiroshima. It is about 12 kilometers from the prefectural capital and is surrounded by mountains in a basin. Numerous traces of ancient habitation have been found, and excavated ruins have revealed a glimpse into history dating back approximately 20,000 years. Brushes are famous as a traditional craft. Brush making, a tradition passed down since the Edo period, accounts for 80% of the nation's production. At the Fude no Sato Workshop, you can actually make a brush, and there are many calligrapher works on display, making it a visual treat. In Kumano Town, Aki District, you can also see houses with thatched roofs, demonstrating that this is a naturally rich region that continues to preserve much of its ancient culture.
