About Showa Village
Showa Village, Tone District, is located in northern Gunma Prefecture, at the southernmost tip of Tone District. Surrounded by magnificent views of the Joshinetsu Mountains and abundant nature, the village is known for its konjac and highland vegetables. The village also boasts numerous cultural assets, making it a popular tourist spot. Key cultural assets include the large zelkova tree at Unshoji Temple, a prefecturally designated natural monument; the ruins of Nagaizaka Castle, a prefecturally designated historic site; the Hotaka Shrine Dance Hall and the Matsuo Kannon Bodhisattva in Shimizu, both designated important cultural properties by the village. The Taidai Kagura dance at Nagai Hakone Shrine, designated an important intangible folk cultural property by Showa Village, Tone District, is one of the village's most popular events. The village hosts a hot spring festival at Showa no Yu, and the Vegetable Kingdom Showa Photo Contest, which began in 2010.
