About Kawaba Village
Kawaba Village, Tone District, is a naturally rich agricultural and mountain village in Gunma Prefecture, located at the southern foot of Mount Hotaka. Four first-class rivers flow through the village, including the Bokone River, from which the village is named. The village's main industry is agriculture, with konjac, dairy farming, fruit trees such as apples and blueberries, and rice being cultivated. Kawaba-grown Koshihikari rice has been branded as "Yukihotaka." The village also places great emphasis on tourism, utilizing its five hot springs and ski resorts. Cultural assets of the village include the wooden seated statue of Zen Master Butshun Esai, a prefecturally designated important cultural property, and the wooden seated statue of Zen Master Hiroenmyōkan, also a prefecturally designated important cultural property.
