Tomioka City is blessed with abundant water and greenery, including Mount Myogi, the Kabura River, and Lake Oshio. The silk industry flourished during the Meiji period. Japan's first government-run Tomioka Silk Mill is currently working to register as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At Myogi Shrine, located halfway up Mount Hakuun, weeping cherry blossoms bloom in spring, creating a beautiful sight. Mount Myogi, one of Japan's Three Great Scenic Spots, offers beautiful autumn foliage and cosmos fields, while Mount Myogi Panorama Park boasts an open-air bath and the Hometown Museum. There are also numerous other tourist attractions, including Gunma Safari Park, Lake Oshio, Kabura Waterland, the Gunma Prefectural Museum of Natural History, and the Fukuzawa Ichiro Memorial Museum of Art. Local specialties include Shimonita natto, honey, and buckwheat noodles.
