About Tamamura Town
Tamamura Town, Sawa District, is located in southern Gunma Prefecture, bordered by the Tori River to the south, the Tone River to the north, and the Takigawa River through the center. In the past, it flourished as a post town on the Nikko Reiheishi Kaido road. The town's name is said to be related to the legend of the dragon's ball at Manpukuji Temple and the fact that the area is prone to collecting water from the Tone River and Tori River. It was once a thriving area for sericulture. Major historical sites in the town include Ie Kamozuka, Izumiya, the remains of Kijima Honjin, and the town-designated Gunbaiyama Kofun and Nashinokiyama Kofun. The Tamamura Fireworks Festival, which has become nationally known, is a town-wide event that draws excitement from the entire town. Its spectacular 360-degree views are a highlight.
