About Itakura Town
Itakura Town, Oura District, is located at the easternmost point of Gunma Prefecture's southeastern border. Gunma Prefecture is often described as shaped like a dancing crane, with Itakura Town in Oura District forming the crane's beak. Itakura Town is located on the border between Gunma, Tochigi, Saitama, and Ibaraki Prefectures. The Tone River is to the south, and the Watarase River to the north. Since dry-field farming began in 1927, agriculture has grown to the point where it's been called the Ukraine of Gunma. Furthermore, the development of industrial parks and regional roads has shortened the travel time to urban areas, and active development, including the establishment of a university and a new train station, has strengthened the town's rural character. Major tourist attractions include the Watarase Reservoir, Raiden Shrine, and Teranishi Shell Mound.
