Chiyoda Town, Oura County, is located in the southeastern part of Gunma Prefecture, in the jaw region, often referred to as the shape of a dancing crane. It also lies on the border with Saitama Prefecture, across the Tone River. Ancient tombs are scattered throughout the western hills, suggesting that the town was a settlement and culturally rich area from ancient times. During the Edo period, the town prospered as a hub for water transportation to Edo via the Tone River. Among the town's cultural assets are the nationally designated Important Cultural Property, the Five Types of Copper Bells, 20cm tall bronze bells believed to date from the Kamakura period. These bells were used as esoteric Buddhist ritual implements, and the collection of five types is extremely valuable. The Jizo Bodhisattva Monument, a prefecturally designated Important Cultural Property, is a precious stone work of art from the Kamakura period.
