About Midori City
Midori City in Gunma Prefecture was established in 2006 through the merger of three towns and villages, making it the first city established in the prefecture in 48 years. The city is blessed with a rich natural environment, including the Ashio Mountains, the Watarase River, and Kusaki Dam. It once thrived as a post town on the Akagane Highway. Today, tourism and agriculture thrive, with tomatoes and eggplants cultivated. There are many tourist attractions, and Takatsudo Gorge offers a panoramic view of the vast Watarase River. Paleolithic stone tools have been excavated from the Iwajuku ruins. Numerous events are held throughout the year, including the Omama Gion Festival, which has a history of over 380 years and attracts many visitors. Local specialties include dried sweet potatoes and dried persimmons.
