Shimonita Town, Kanra District, is a region in Gunma Prefecture famous for its production of Shimonita leek. A distinctive feature of this region is that there are few flat areas and most of the land is sloped. In the past, the town served as a major transportation hub connecting the Kanto region. The climate is relatively warm, and snow only falls about twice a year, making life comfortable. Nyakutchi is the town's mascot, and he is active in festivals held in the town. Nyakutchi was created by local elementary school students and is very popular among locals. In addition to Shimonita leek, other local specialties include konjac.
