About Minamimaki Village
Minamimaki Village, Kanra District, is located in western Gunma Prefecture. The village is home to Mount Arafune, Mount Hikage, and Mount Oya, all of which are among Japan's 200 famous mountains. Rivers include the Minamimaki River, the Oshiozawa River, and the Hizawa River. In 2008, the village established the Tomioka-Kanra Regional Merger Study Group with Tomioka City and Shimonita Town. Among Minamimaki Village's cultural assets is Kurotakiyama Fudo-ji Temple, which is said to have been built 1,300 years ago to house a statue of Acala carved by Gyoki himself. The quiet, mysterious atmosphere within the temple grounds echoes with the sounds of Buddhist monks, mokugyodori, and other birds. Guests can also enjoy fucha cuisine at the temple lodgings. The village is also known for its accommodation and Zen training opportunities. It is also home to the Dainita Fireworks, a nationally designated intangible folk cultural property.
